Paints and Stains

PAINTING
Many considerations of paint have to deal with interior air quality issues. This being the case, many companies have started to make low or zero VOC product lines. It should be realized that most zero VOC paints still use colorant systems that contain VOC’s. So the more that you as a customer customize the coloring of the paint, the more emissions will be present.

For a paint to receive a GreenSpec rating it must have VOC levels of less than 50 grams per liter. To learn more about GreenSpecs and paints follow this link.

Today it is becoming more and more common for paints to be made from minimally processed plants and minerals; a consumer may notice these products contain relatively high levels of VOCs. These VOCs tend to be relatively less dangerous than the VOCs released by petrochemical made paints. Choosing not to use petrochemical made paints will minimizes projects embodied Co2 emissions.
